Based in Oxfordshire, my client has been operating in the Eyewear sector since 2004. Having huge success in China as pioneers of “Adjustable Lens” technology, my client has established a strong foothold in the market.

Due to continued success and a new market opportunity, my client has launched an “Innovations” arm to their business and have successfully taken contracts from Multi-Billion-Dollar OEMs to help bring their technology to the Virtual Reality and new Augmented Reality markets in which Ophthalmic needs are underserved.

With aims to triple revenue over the course of the next year, my client is now looking to bring in a talented Design Engineer with a background in Mechatronics, AR/VR.

This is an opportunity to join and work alongside high-performing engineers as part of the R&D function; engaged in designing custom adjustable optics for major global companies. Acting as part of a cross-functional team, you will be responsible for the Design, CAD, prototyping and early stage process engineering of the optical elements of third party AR/VR applications.

You will be responsible for managing the design process for a number of components and sub-assemblies, from problem analysis to concepting and specification up to prototype release; including production and testing of prototypes and supporting development of the manufacturing process to full scale production. The role therefore requires close and efficient coordination with the manufacturing team and liaison with third party suppliers of materials, sub-components and equipment.

The product design challenge will require working with a variety of materials, production and finishing techniques, including plastic moulding, coating, and mechanical assemblies with electronic actuation. Experience of designing precision plastic components, complex mechanisms with electronic actuation and control, and optical components will be a distinct advantage.
