The Role A number of openings have arisen for Scientists/ Senior Scientists to join an emerging cancer immunotherapy company developing cell based treatments for cancer and severe viral infections. Based at their manufacturing facility in the central belt of Scotland, this role will form part of the product development team. The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of Development. You will form an integral part of the process development team and will provide specialist immunology/oncology knowledge and apply this expertise to the design and development of key assays and protocols. You will troubleshoot and optimise cell culture processes and contribute to the establishment of novel cell culturing processes, both theoretically and practically, with the intention of creating new cell therapy products. One of the main responsibilities, is the development of genetically modified immune cells using (for example) lentiviral transduction techniques with the aim to develop new cell therapy products. You will contribute scientific ideas to aid the product development team in achieving their aims. Perform the identified experiments designed to refine all aspects of the production process and accompanying assays. Key experimental procedures will include but are not limited to cell isolation, cell culture, cell transfection/ transduction, flow cytometry, Luminex, cell-based assays, cell population enrichment and molecular biology techniques such as miRNA/RNA isolation and quantitative RT-PCR. Responsibilities • Perform cell culture of primary immune cells, cancer cells and immortalised cell lines • Perform functional cell based assays such as cytotoxicity assays and proliferation assays. • Design and perform multiparameter flow cytometry experiments • Perform immunological assays such as Luminex and intracellular cytokine assays • Perform lentiviral transduction experiments of various immune cells • Participate in the design, production and optimisation of new lentiviral vectors for use in research projects. • Perform molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to primer design, miRNA and RNA isolation and quantitative PCR assays. • Carry out literature reviews /collate information to identify information useful for the development of novel assays or the improvement of current processes. • Maintain documentation to appropriate quality standards, including, but not limited to, laboratory notebooks, standard operating procedures, COSHH/BIOCOSHH assessments and Risk Assessments. • Provide support to other departments such as quality control. • Analyse independently data generated from experiments, draw appropriate conclusions and decide upon next steps. • Contribute to written documentation including SOPs, publications and patent applications. • Ensure work is performed in accordance with the Company’s QA and Health and Safety policies including the provision of COSHH/BIOCOSHH/Risk assessments. • Analyse and interpret data generated from experiments, drawing appropriate conclusions and deciding upon next steps • Supervise junior members of the product development team The Candidate • Degree in immunology/cell biology/oncology or equivalent.
