The Metrology Engineer will be responsible for managing the design process for a number of components and sub-assemblies, from specification review and concepting to prototype release; including production and testing of prototypes and development of the prototype manufacturing process flow and Design for Manufacture (DfM) activities. So far, my client has two clinical stage programmes in IBS and IBD as well as a strong pipeline of pre-clinical programmes in autoimmunity, inflammation, oncology and CNS disease. Due to recent expansion, my client is looking for a Research Microbiology Scientist to perform testing required to support the core research and development of the strain library to help identify candidate live bio-therapeutic products capable of modulating host-microbe interactions. Alongside this you will also make scientific observations, maintain detailed workbooks/documentation and ensure all documentation fulfils generally accepted professional/industry standards. Essential Qualifications: PhD Degree in Microbiology, biomedical sciences or a least 5 years experience working in industry. Essential experience: Competency with microbiology techniques especially in the cultivation of anaerobic microbes. Competency with cell culture techniques. Competency in a range of screening assays relevant to host-microbe interactions. Expertise in HPLC; extraction, detection and quantification of small molecules. Key Areas of Responsibility Running assay development and validation for the discovery and characterisation of LBPs, in particular where gut cells and bacteria are involved. Introduce and validate new screening approaches/methods ensuring they are current and compliant with industry standards and regulations. Report results to the Team Leader and senior members of the team. Perform laboratory techniques and protocols according to SOPs and provide technical support to the Discovery I Micro team.     Principal Materials Research Chemist- Chemicals- £80k My client is a privately-held technology company with a global headquarters and state-of-the art ophthalmological research and manufacturing facility, in Oxfordshire. The company are in their start-up phase and are looking to take on an experienced Materials and Coatings Engineer with a significant chemistry back ground and a strong knowledge of elastomeric compounds (particularly urethane and siloxane chemistry). Experience of coating process is an advantage (esp. for space and military), particularly plasma and spray coating methods, laying down either organic or inorganic compounds to achieve robustness, protection, and optical performance of the surface. You will work closely with the FEA modelling team to deliver materials data that can simulate adjustable lens systems and the manufacturing and prototyping team to specify and debug assembly and coating processes in the lab. In addition to the specific materials and role, you will undertake numerical and empirical system modelling supporting the design team with the understanding of physical concepts beyond general engineering and design. The role will have a business-customer facing element, therefore presentation and communication skills will be valued. Limited long-haul international travel will be required to USA / Asia. This role will not suite an office-based applicant and the company are keen to see people who lead by example and have a hands-on approach. You will have: MSc or PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science or equivalent. At least 20 years’ proven experience in the lab (including time spent in a research degree) Experience adept with Matlab, LabView and Office Suite.
