They are now looking for a driven, organised and proactive individual to lead the Fermentation group in the Preclinical Development Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for in-house fermentation of multiple anaerobic gut bacteria that comprise the medicine, characterising and optimising their growth and providing support for upstream and downstream method development and optimisation. You will be responsible for performing molecular cloning and characterisation of viruses as well as taking part in developing new methods of generating recombinant vectors. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •Develop new vectors for use as vaccines, and new methods to generate recombinant viral vectors •Construct and characterise various customised shuttle plasmids for the generation of recombinant viral vectors. •Cloning of adeno-viral genomes into plasmid vectors using a variety of cloning techniques. •Recover engineered candidate vaccine viruses from cell cultures transfected with plasmids in compliance with GLP guidelines. •Characterize rescued viruses by genomic sequencing and growth characteristics; analyse and report results. •Participate in developing new methods and processes for the generation of viral vectors •Prepare study reports for leadership and manuscripts for publication in scientific journals. You will have: A PhD in a relevant life sciences subject, with a working knowledge of molecular biology, cell biology and microbiology procedures and practices. Solid understanding of Molecular virology with extensive cloning experience or Viral vector engineering (vaccines or gene therapy fields) A background in virology (preferably adenoviruses) is highly desirable but not essential.
