    Group Leader of Gene Editing- Oxford- Permanent Based in oxford my client is a biotherapeutics company, specialising in the the discovery, development and production of complex biologics. Due to a period of successful expansion, they are looking to take on a highly motivated and passionate, Group Leader of Gene Editing. This position will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the cell engineering and screening team, to ensure experimental design is carried out accurately and efficiently, and to generate customer proposals and provide regular updates/reporting. This position would suit an individual with a strong background in gene editing and mammalian cell manipulation, but also with an aptitude for process optimisation and with an operational mindset. The position would interface extensively with a number of other teams in the organisation, in particular with bioinformatics, automation and quality. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Day to day management of cell engineering and screening teams • To support Scientist colleagues with experimental design and approach • To generate customer proposals, working with the commercial team • Liaise with customers, providing regular updates and troubleshooting • Act as a subject matter expert for gene editing technologies • Support commercial activities by attending conferences/trade shows, as required • Develop and nurture a high-performing team, and provide associated training You will have: •Ph.D/ DPhil in a relevant life sciences area (i.e. Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or Biochemistry), ideally along with >3 years’ experience in an industry setting •High-level understanding of gene editing technologies (especially CRISPR), and approaches for the design and analysis of gene editing strategies •Experience of managing and developing a team of Scientists and technicians Nice to have: •Experience with automating and optimising biological processes •Familiarity or direct experience with genetic engineering of iPSC, ESC or primary cells Experience of carrying out CRISPR-based screening experiments, using KO and CRISPRi/a approaches •Strong publication record Competitive salary (at the company request this will only be disclosed at application) Excellent benefits State of the art facilities.

It is essential that the right candidate has a high-level understanding of how gene editing/CRISPR is applied to expedite the understanding of basic biology, to interrogate biological processes and to facilitate translational biology, but also has a vision to future opportunities, and a pragmatic/systematic view on how to get there.
